Bound by Diamonds

Bound by Diamonds consists of four velcro straps connected together in a hog tie fashion. We have used the Bound by Diamonds hog tie a number of times and found it quite easy to use.

The wrist and ankle straps are quite soft and we didn’t find them to cut into the skin, and were actually smooth enough to enjoy the feeling of them. The cuffs aren’t padded in any way, shape or form.

The Calexotics website indicates that the wrist and ankle straps are two different sizes, however upon inspection the difference in sizes are minimal. They are large enough, even for my larger wrists and ankles than my sexyasianminx.

It would be nice if the cross straps were actually adjustable as I felt they were just a tad too long. It would also be nice if the clips were on the cuffs rather than the cross strap. It means that in order to use the cuffs you always need the cross strap, and with the straps being too long it isn’t ideal.

Overall, sexyasianminx and I enjoy using the Bound by Diamonds hog tie cuffs and strap, and found them to be fairly comfortable. I would recommend that the cross straps be adjustable to pull the wrists and ankles closer together, but at the same time, it means that they won’t separate at inopportune times.

Sex and Metal’s Vanquisher

I’m sure it’s shocking to exactly none of my readers that I’m kinky. I’m active in my local scene, run a kinky educational group, and my fiance and I have an entire wall dedicated to our toy collection. So, when Sexandmetal.com posted that they were looking for toy reviewers who might be interested in reviewing some of their toys, I jumped at the chance. I’d been admiring their products for a while, especially The Vanquisher, The Reaper, and The Bird Cage (seriously, please click over. It’s well worth a look and worth drooling over.) Sadly, my apartment is too small for the Bird Cage, so they sent me the Vanquisher.

This toy is a dragon’s tongue (Dragon’s tail is another name I’ve seen used) style impact toy. It’s essentially a length of thin silicone that has been rolled into a tube, leaving a single curling tip at the end. The handle is utterly gorgeous. It’s steel, though it comes in gorgeous candy apple red finish as well, and has been etched with a tribal design on the sides. The edges of the design feel like they’ve been lightly buffed so there’s no sharp edges, and it does add a bit of extra grip to the metal. There’s a loop at the end to hang your toy from or to thread a handle through as extra security during use-mine came pre-threaded with a leather lacing loop.

Materials: raw powder coated steel and silicone
Handle length: 7 inches
Length of tail: 20.5 inches
Width of tail: 3 inches at the widest point

When it arrived, Sexandmetal had packaged it well in a plain box with paper packing to keep it safe. The return address was listed as ‘S.A.M.’, with nary a mention of ‘Kinky Sex Toys inside this box!’. The silicone tail had been folded over, but because silicone is such a resilient material, it instantly bounced back to it’s normal shape and this didn’t effect the accuracy of the toy during use.

The Vanquisher is easy to take care of. Silicone and metal are both non-porous, and they can be disinfected between partners by wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution. I bring this up because I could maybe see this toy breaking skin, and unlike a leather toy, you can actually clean this material and use it with other partners afterwards! I’ve also used medical grade cleaning wipes on mine, and have seen no discoloration of the metal or any issues with the silicone. Storing your toy is also simple. Hang it up, tuck it into a drawer, or just leave it in your toy bag! The one downside I’ve noticed is that the silicone of the tail loves to pick up dust and cat fur in my house, so I’ve taken to storing it with a plastic ziplock style bag over the tail. Also, if you’re a material snob, you can rest easy. This silicone arrived with no smell, no taste, and while I’m not going to perform a flame test on it, I’m fairly confident that it is 100% silicone!

This is definitely a versatile toy! There’s so many ways you can use it, and the variety sensations that are produced are pretty impressive. I wouldn’t recommend this for the beginner kinkster, though, unless you already know that they’re a masochist. All of the different types of sensations the Vanquisher can produce are pretty intense and on the stingy side. I have left a variety of marks on my bottoms from pink marks to bruises to welts with this toys.

You can throw the Vanquisher in a variety of ways. Here’s a few of the ways that I’ve used it the last few times I’ve had a scene:
1. Like a flogger. I use a ‘figure 8′ pattern when I flog, bringing the toy down in longer strokes along the back. The more of the toy that makes contact with your bottom, the thuddier it is.
2. Like a whip, or a ‘rat-tail’ towel. I tend to hold on to the very tip of the tail to aim the toy for better accuracy. Using the toy like this tends to be a far stingier impact.
3. Flicking it. I was shocked at how much sensation (and squeaks and whimpers) was produced by just flicking the tip over my bottom’s skin.
4. Doubling the tail in half and using it the silicone portion as an incredibly thick and thuddy impact toy. I usually hold the very tip against the handle with my palm so I don’t lose my grip.

These will all feel different, but are all fairly intense sensations. I’ve also noticed that there can be a bit of a delay between the impact and actually feeling it. When I first tried the toy out (Soapbox moment: I think as a responsible top you should test what your new toys feel like on yourself before you use it on another person.), I flicked it against my outer calf. My thought process was “Oh, this isn’t so ba…wait, tingles…oh. Ow. Ow. Ow.” I’m pale, so my skin instantly pinked up too. It was an interesting sensation and reminded me yet again of why I am not a masochist.

I’ve used this on a few different bottoms at this point and they all have different reactions to it. T. loved it, and the sharpness of the sensation made her squeak and giggle. (She’s the lovely model in my pics sporting the pretty triangular marks). J. prefers thuddy toys, so we tried it once, and it was deemed ‘way too stingy’ for her. N.’s reaction was “Owch! That hurts…but I kinda like it!”. We ended up having to vary the stingy stuff with thuddier toys, but she said it was definitely something she wants to play with again. In all three scenes, I had warmed the bottom up well with other toys that were definitely on the thuddier side. I don’t see anyone handling this toy well without a good warmup unless they’re insanely heavy masochists.

Overall, this is a great toy. The quality and craftsmanship are excellent, it’s unique looking (Admit it, you like having toys no one else at the party has. Everyone does.), and it packs one hell of a stingy wallop. I’d recommend it for anyone who has a heavy bottom, folks who like stingier play, and kinksters who want to add something that’s a bit more evil to their toy bag. I personally love mine!

Spartacus Fleece Lined Blindfold

The Spartacus Fleece Lined Blindfold is a leather blindfold with a fleece lining the inside. It has two elastic straps that hold it in place and is fairly solidly constructed. The fleece and the leather are sewn together with stitching around the outside, and the elastic band is sewn on between the piece of leather and the piece of fleece. The blindfold measures 8 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide, not including the elastic band.

Now, I should start the experience part of this review out by saying I hate sensory deprivation. I can’t stand having my eyes covered, even during non-kinky sex, so when my Master decided to start poking at my buttons and playing with this particular fear, I was not a happy girl. But…I’m his, and I trust him, so decided to try to take the experimenting with as much grace and as little hyperventilating as possible. I was told to kneel as he put the blindfold on, and then guided so I was half bent over the bed. Various painful and interesting things happened, but this isn’t the post to go into details. Another post later, maybe. Not being able to see where in the room my Master was, or see what the hell he just hit me with definitely made the experience a lot more intense for both of us. I found I was pushed into subspace a lot faster than I normally get there, and that I also was needier during aftercare and required more cuddling/reassurance than usual.

The blindfold was very comfortable against my face. The fleece lining isn’t perfectly soft or smooth, but I didn’t find it irritating. Well, not physically irritating, that it. I had my hair pulled back in a ponytail at the crown of my head, and we found the straps worked best when one was above and the other below the ponytail. Despite my best efforts during the scene to rub the blindfold off against the sheets so I could see *something*, it stayed firmly in place. Blast.

How does it work at blocking out the light? Far too well for my comfort. When it’s settled in place, I can’t see anything. Nada. Even with my eyes open, there’s total darkness. It’s a very disconcerting feeling for me, but I’m sure some will love it! It’s definitely comfortable enough that you could use it as a sleep mask. I’ve also used this with a male submissive I play with, and he found it worked quite well to block out the light for him and his facial structure as well, but said that it was a bit tight to be completely comfortable.

The nose piece of this blindfold is a bit on the small side, so if you have a broader nose, you may feel a bit pinched (although this may be something that amuses the top/sadist in your life) Another thing I have noticed is that the leather on the front has wrinkled slightly with use and storage, which hasn’t effected the use of the blindfold, but does spoil the aesthetics a bit.

To take care of your blindfold, simply wipe down the leather portion with a damp cloth after use to remove and sweat/bodily fluids from the leather and allow it to dry thoroughly before storage. You could also used Saddle Soap to clean the leather more thoroughly if you wanted. I am unsure how to go about cleaning the fleece part of the blindfold, as there were no care instructions included with it. I’d recommend storing it somewhere flat, to try to avoid more wrinkles or bends in the leather!

Leatherbeaten ‘Imp’ paddle

Ah, Leatherbeaten . How I adore you. Leatherbeaten is an Ontario based company that specializes in leather work and inventively evil little toys. (yes, Delrin Cane, I am looking at you.) I lust more than a girl with an evil Master should over their Penitent Series and whips.

I’ve already reviewed the Spanker paddle, and now it’s time to introduce the Spanker’s partner in crime (Or at least that’s what they are in my play bag), the Imp.

The Imp measures 14 inches long from end to end, and 3 inches wide. The handle is 6 inches long, 1 1/4 inches wide, and has been reinforced with steel. It fits beautifully in my hand. and has a hole in the bottom so there is the option to hang it up when not in use.

The Imp is made of two thick pieces of 8oz harness leather sewn together with the ends left open. The ‘raw’ sides of the leather are facing each other, and the fact that you can occasionally see the rough leather doesn’t spoil the aesthetics of the paddle. The stitching is hand sewn with heavy duty thread, and I have had no issues with fraying or it trying to unravel. Because the paddles aren’t mass produced, the stitching is slightly less than perfect, but not enough for it to be noticeable. (or mess with my OCD!)

To take care of your Imp, you can wipe it down with a lightly damp cloth after play, and store it once it has thoroughly dried. As leather is porous, you can’t ever totally sterilize it, so I would not recommend using it on someone with open cuts, and if you do get blood on it, it should be reserved for that partner alone. If you want to baby your paddle a bit more, you can always treat the finished sides of the leather with Saddle Soap. This removes any dirt or grease and helps condition the leather, keeping it supple and shiny. Again, I am not an expert on leather care, but this is what works for me and my various pieces, and I haven’t had any issues with them. This is a solidly constructed impact toy, and while the leather has some signs of wear after over a year of use, they are my fault, as I kept it in a bag with a wartenburg pinwheel at one point, but there are no other problems!

The Imp is a ‘slapper’ style paddle, but isn’t a lightweight by any means. Hitting with the paddle straight on gives a bit of thud as well as some sting, but when you give the paddle a flick as you swing, it’s pure sting, baby! While it isn’t anywhere near as evil as a singletail whip may be, I would put it at a 4-5 out of 10 on the evilness scale.
I’ve used this paddle on several different partners, and have one who affectionately refers to it as the ‘Evil Paddle of Owch’. I tend to use this as a counterpoint to the Spanker paddle, and usually use it so it’s all sting. Hey, I’ve never claimed to be a nice person! It leaves gorgeous red marks, but I have only been able to raise welts once with the Imp, and that was during a particularly long scene.

I purchased my Imp through Leatherbeaten’s website, and was thoroughly impressed by their customer service. My first choice of colours for my paddle wasn’t available, and the staff was quick to inform me of this, apologize, and inform me of my other colour choices. Their replies to my emails were always quick and courteous. I was informed when my toys shipped, and was given a tracking number, as well as being thanked repeatedly for my purchase. I love love love their amazing customer service! That alone makes me want to be a return customer.

I give the Imp 5 stingy paws up out of 5!

All About Bondage, aka Kink 101

So, you’ve read ’50 Shades of Grey’, and now you want to start spanking and paddling and tying your partner up. That’s great! Just make sure you’re doing it safely.

Handcuffs seem like a great idea, but in reality, they can be unsafe. If your partner is someone who likes to pull at their restraints (or, if you plan on doing things to them that may make them pull against their bonds or jerk/flail), get leather cuffs instead! I personally love these locking leather cuffs, but have heard great things about the Fresh, Hearts, and Aslan cuffs.

Rope is also something you may wish to try! This rope is a cotton blend, despite what the company claims, and it a decent beginner’s rope. Make sure that you don’t tie anyone too tightly, that you have emergency shears close by, just in case your partner needs to get free in a hurry, and never leave someone alone who is tied up!

Ballgags are something fun, if you like the thought of muffling your partner’s moans. It doesn’t make things entirely quiet, but does soften the sounds the wearer can make. Silicone balls have no taste or scent, and I rec the Beginner’s Ball Gag and Aslan’s gag! Also, if you’re interested in a different look, why not check out this bit gag? With a gag, you can’t clearly hear what your partner is saying, so you should have some other way for them to tell you that they want things to stop! Have them hold keys, or something else that will make a loud sound when dropped.

Does the thought of a spanking make your pants tight or your panties damp? Why not try out some impact toys? Crops, paddles, slappers, and floggers can all be deliciously painful, and can pink up a bottom’s bottom nicely. Want to know where safe places to hit are? Check out this cool diagram! (The places that are highlighted in green are the least likely to cause damage to your bottom.)

Nipple clamps can also be a fun way to introduce kink into your sex life! While butterfly clamps are not for the faint of heart (or the sensitive of nipple!), tweezer style clamps are much more forgiving, as are these!

The most important thing to do before trying any new kinky activities is to talk about them with your partner! Don’t just spring kink onto them, make sure that they know what’s going to happen and are ok with it! And, above all, be safe and have fun!

Bondage Boutique’s Hog Hide Twelve Tail Flogger

The Bondage Boutique Hog Hide Twelve Tail Flogger was sent to me by Lovehoney for review, and I had hoped that it would be similar to a particularly stingy and evil flogger I had seen before but couldn’t afford.

This flogger measures 31 inches overall, and the tails are 22.5 inches. Each fall is braided, and ends in a tassel with a knot holding it together. The braids are all tightly woven and don’t look as though they will fray any time soon. The same goes for the tassels. It’s a well constructed toy overall. The handle of the flogger is lightweight, and a bit longer than I am used to at 8.5 inches long.

The downfall of this toy is the material. Yes, it’s leather, but it’s hog hide leather, and however Bondage Boutique’s leather supplier treated and processed it leaves a *lot* to be desired. Simply put, this toy stinks. Badly. Leather used for BDSM toys should smell good, like an expensive pair of shoes, a nice jacket, or maybe even a baseball glove. This did not. It smelled like a package of pig ears, and unless you are a golden retriever, I think most of you will agree that is not a sexy scent in a toy.

When my boyfriend first opened the package from Lovehoney, he thought that there was some sort of chemical off-gassing in the box (I’m so proud of him for making that connection. 6 months ago, he had no idea what phthalates were…and now I’ve thoroughly corrupted him to my body-safe sex toy loving ways.) it smelled so strongly. We ended up hanging the flogger in an empty closet for several weeks before using it, hoping the smell would go away. I wasn’t willing to put it in my toy bag, for fear the smell would transfer onto my other leather pieces and fabrics.

After about a month, the scent went away enough that I felt better about using it on someone, though I still wasn’t ok with putting it in with the rest of my toys. The smell was still noticeable to the point my bottom for the night commented on it while she was picking the toys we were going to use for our scene.

The toy handles well, though the tails and handle are a bit long for me. (I’m 5 ft 6 with size medium hands, so my arm span and grip are smaller.) The tails do fly well in a group, and you don’t have to worry about rogue falls wrapping around your bottom’s ribs. Unless that was your intent, that is. I would have preferred a slightly heavier weight of leather, because when you combine that with the length of the tails it makes them slightly more difficult to control.

The sensation this toy produces is mostly sting. The braided falls end in little knots that have ‘tails’, which is going to give you sting no matter what, but this could have been a much more versatile toy with some extra weight. You’d have been able to switch between thud or sting depending on how much of the falls you hit with. If you strike with just the very tips, this flogger is stingy as hell. Hitting with the tips and more of the falls make it slightly more thuddy, but not much. If you hold the handle with two hands and swing it like a baseball bat and you’re trying to hit that last ball of the game over the fences, you can make thud happen. But I’m a lazy top, and an entire scene like that would be exhausting, so stingy it is!

This toy would be good for you if you have bigger hands than I do, don’t mind toys that smell strongly, and like lightweight and stingy toys. For me, while it is definitely unique, I can’t overlook the flaws to completely love this flogger. I give it 3 paws out of 5, taking one off for the smell and another for the lightness of the leather.
